Hyson Green Community Action is a grassroots community interest company dedicated to making our neighbourhood cleaner, safer, and more welcoming. Our work depends on the kindness and commitment of volunteers who help with activities such as litter picks, community gardening, and supporting local events.
This policy outlines what volunteering with us involves, what we expect from volunteers, and how we protect everyone involved.
Volunteering is a chance to contribute to the community in a way that suits you. There are no formal contracts or minimum hours — just a shared goal to improve Hyson Green. Volunteers might help outdoors with practical tasks or support behind the scenes.
We ask that all volunteers approach their work with respect, kindness, and a willingness to follow guidance. Please remember that volunteers do not have authority to represent Hyson Green Community Action publicly unless specifically authorised.
Your safety is important. Volunteers must take care to follow all safety instructions, wear appropriate clothing, and communicate openly if they feel unsure or unwell. We conduct risk assessments where needed and provide relevant safety guidance before activities.
In case of any accident or hazard, please notify a team leader immediately. Volunteers should never attempt tasks they feel uncomfortable with or that seem unsafe.
We collect only the necessary personal information to keep you safe, such as contact details and any health information relevant to your volunteering. This information is securely stored and used only for the purposes of volunteering with us.
We do not share your information with third parties. While we aim to keep data handling straightforward, we cannot promise immediate deletion of records on request but will always treat your data with care.
Hyson Green Community Action is volunteer-led. While we don’t provide formal supervision, we encourage open communication. If you have concerns, need support, or want to discuss your role, please reach out to one of the directors or activity coordinators.
Please note, we do not generally provide formal references, but we can confirm volunteer involvement where appropriate.
To protect both volunteers and the group:
We strive to create a positive and inclusive environment for everyone.
